![]() ![]() ![]() I once spoke to a linguist who was a total name nerd and he explained a theory that a child's name dictates a part of their personality. I read somewhere that native English speakers are incapable of pronouncing certain sounds properly because they dont use or exercise certain movements / muscles (not sure if it's true), so I also feel bad when they think they're offending me for getting my name wrong. I just got tired of explaining what it means, where it comes from, and repeating it several times when the person tries their best to pronounce it just right (bless their hearts). Not because I'm ashamed of my name or because I'm trying to let others 'off the hook'. I have one of these names! I really love it but often go by Rachel. (And my middle is one of those “bland” names so I’m including myself in the “bland” group! Lol) All the typical middle names (Ann’s, Marie’s, John’s and Robert’s) will be so bland next to them! But that’s just my opinion and you’re the parent. If they want to use the name more, they can definitely do so if you’ve included it and if not, they have a cool and unique middle name to tell people about when everyone is telling theirs in school. (Who am I kidding, most teachers I’ve known are awesome BUT there will definitely be teachers who just don’t call on them) I think they’re gorgeous names when I read your pronunciation guides, but I think that using them as a middle name would be better. Again, I would not avoid doing so-but some other teachers might not try as hard. I would definitely try and be 100% respectful.but if I’m honest, I’d likely dread calling on them and accidentally messing up unless they went by a nickname.
